About

As a professionally certified fitness trainer with the prestigious National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), I have a passion for health and exercise and for working as a lifestyle coach to support others in reaching their health and fitness goals. The study and practice of fitness and nutrition (diet) has been an integral part of my life for more than 20 years. My fitness regimen included running a 10k, 6 days/week until my husband and I planned a sabbatical aboard a 35 foot sloop to begin in 2003. I was in pretty good shape, but I didn't think I was strong enough to crew a sailboat on the open ocean. In preparation for our adventure, I began a vigorous strength training program, working with a personal trainer out of Gold's Gym in the San Francisco Bay Area.  He was a four time World Champion Power Lifter. It was the best decision I could have made.

After a wonderful sabbatical cruise, in 2006 we sold the boat and moved to San Miguel de Allende. We had grown to truly love Mexico. Upon arriving in San Miguel, I decided what I wanted to do next; formalize my study and experience in fitness and nutrition. After researching the industry, I decided to study and train with the prestigious National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). It was a grueling curriculum of physiology, anatomy and bio-mechanics ….but I loved it! I am proud to be a NSCA certified trainer and I keep my credentials up-to-date with ongoing education, seminars, workshops and trade shows.

Mentors

Dr. Stuart McGill – Dr. McGill is a professor of spine biomechanics at the University of ON, Canada. His advice is often sought by governments, corporations, legal experts and elite athletes and teams from around the world. Difficult back cases are regularly referred to him for consultation and I have taken his course on Low Back Disorders.

Gray Cook – I have taken his class in Functional Movement, taught by Mr. Cook personally.  He is considered the industry leader and he has set the standard for including functional movement in all training programs.

Alwyn Cosgrove –  Mr. Cosgrove is among the most sought after speakers at National Fitness Conventions around the world. I worked with him directly at a three-day intensive fitness conference in March 2009.  I receive his emails on a weekly basis, keeping me up to date on the latest techniques for metabolic training, weight loss and conditioning.

Todd Durkin – Todd is known as the trainers-trainer. I think if you Google fitness expert, Todd's name appears first on the list.

Dr. Jane Pentz – Dr. Pentz  is a nutrition professor at Tufts University, founder of AADSN, American Academy of Dietary Sports Nutrition.  I have taken her course, receiving my certification as a Nutritional Consultant.

NSCA – As the worldwide authority on strength and conditioning, and sister organization to American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), they support and disseminate research-based knowledge and its practical application to improve athletic performance and fitness.  The organization produces, for its members, monthly white papers providing the latest scientific studies of exercise and measurable impact.
